Village of Suffern Proclamation of a Local State of Emergency
March 23 - April 21
As Mayor of the Village of Suffern pursuant to Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law, I have issued a Proclamation of a Local State of Emergency (listed below) for the Village of Suffern effective March 23, 2020. This Proclamation will enable the Village of Suffern during the Covid 19 Pandemic to protect life and property and to bring this emergency situation under control as the circumstances may warrant, all as in accordance with NY State Law. This Proclamation does not supersede any Executive Orders issued by the Governor of the State of New York or the Rockland County Executive. This State of Emergency shall remain in effect for thirty days, through April 21st, and may be extended at this time.
“If ever there is a time to practice humanity — it is now. The time to show kindness, to show compassion. New Yorkers are tough — but we are also the most courageous community that you have ever seen,” were words Governor Cuomo spoke during a recent news conference. These words immediately reminded me of the kindness and generosity of Village of Suffern Residents. As a community, we will need to come together and assist those around us in many different ways, in both large and small efforts, as we are able so that as a community we will lead the way as an example to others during these difficult times.
The Village of Suffern is taking this action to be proactively positioned to prepare our Village to take steps now to ensure our residents have all available resources to address situations that may arise during the challenging times we, as a community, will face over the upcoming weeks. The issuance of this Proclamation should not cause residents concern, rather residents should be assured that as Mayor, with support of the Village of Suffern’s team of professionals, our Village is prepared and available to assist residents now and in the days ahead.
I wish all residents health and strength. Now is the time to practice humanity and to show kinds and compassion. Together, as New Yorkers, we will come through this as a stronger community which will can rise together for a better tomorrow for all.
