Welcome to the Suffern Police Department homepage. For the past 100 plus years our department has been providing exemplary service to our community.
The Suffern Police Department, formed in 1896, presently serves approximately 14,000 residents who reside in a 2.5 square mile village. Suffern is located approximately 30 miles northwest of New York City and features a business district, a large train station, a hospital, a community center as well as other attractions. The police department is located on the ground floor of the Suffern Municipal Building at 61 Washington Ave. in Suffern, NY.
The police department features a Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, K-9 Unit, Bicycle Patrol, DARE Unit and a Community Policing Unit.
In a continued effort to provide the best possible services to our community the Suffern Police Department has equipped it’s patrol vehicles with numerous items including Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s), Mobile Data Terminals (to conduct checks of both vehicles and people), AR-15 rifles, Halogen tools (to assist with building entry) and Mobile Vision Video Cameras. In 2006 we equipped our officers with TASER’s and in 2009 we received elite status by becoming an official New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Accredited Agency. The Suffern Police Department has a long tradition of providing dedicated and caring service to our residents.
